Thank You, Everyone… for a great Christmas Carol Cruise 2011!

Over 100 people at Porpoise Bay Park, 30 at Shora Marina, and an enthusiastic crowd in Sandy Hook watched 13 vessels – all lit up in the spirit of the season – parade up Sechelt Inlet this past Saturday evening (December 17).

From all accounts the event was well-received, with many oohs and aahs, morse code flashlights viewed across the inlet, and bonfires to ward off the winter chill. The music was festive and easy to hear, and thank you to Mother Nature for holding off on the rain!

Please share your experience of the event, and be sure to send along your pictures – not only of the boats, but of the seaside congregations too.

Get us on your Christmas Calendar!

It’s coming fast, and with the snow we’re getting that much more excited about the upcoming Christmas Carol Cruise in Sechelt Inlet. We’re busy putting together the event and hope you will get involved – whether it’s as a participant, docked/moored boat with lights, or coming out to beaches along the route to watch the procession go by.

This is a picture of the sailboat, Nanette, all gussied up for a past Christmas Cruise. With the reflections off of the water, the procession of boats heading up the Inlet and back is a great way to celebrate Christmas Sunshine Coast style.

Mark your calendar with the date: Saturday December 17, at 1800 hrs

That’s 6pm to all you landlubbers.

Boats from marinas and private docks around Sechelt Inlet will gather in front of the Lighthouse Pub and fall into formation for a roundtrip cruise out to Tuwanek and back to Porpoise Bay. Anyone with a view of the water will be able to see this stunning display and hear the traditional Christmas Carols ringing loud and clear from the coastal towboat “Kinnaird”, the lead vessel.

People can enjoy the display at any local beach but are encouraged to gather at the Provincial Park Beach in Porpoise Bay, as this is one of the best locations. There will also be a bonfire at the boat launch in Sandy Hook (the ‘Fish Tail’).

Stay tuned for details about bonfires, caroling and other family-friendly ways to connect with this historical ‘tradition of the Inlet’ that dates back to 1988.

Boaters wanting to participate are requested to contact Wilma Kersten via the contact form on this site or by calling Wilma at 604.885.4711.
